Mark, it looks really soft at the corners. Does it get any better as you stop down?
Yes, the corners are definitely soft. Stopping down up to f8 gets rid of it all. This is of course more of an issue with fullframe (FX) cameras than with DX. This is a D800E image.
All the lenses are the exact same, except for marketing and price for some reason. Mine has the Rokinon label, I just say Samyang as that is what it really is.
In any case, headed out yesterday - and had to work to get this shot - literally. The roads are snowed in to get to a lot of the falls that I wanted to shoot yesterday. Usually waterfalls are not ideal this time of year as the maiden ferns are still 3 months from blooming - however there are many falls that don't have any plant life, so they are good to go all year round .
So with the 1-2 feet of snow on the road to the trailhead, it added 4 miles to my "hike". I am still beat from this 9 mile ish roundtrip to shoot this beast. As chance would have it, the sunstar showed up seriously 2 minutes after I took my camera out.
NO FILTERS were used for this shot. I did blend for this - as the sky was blown out. This is a single shot, but double processed. I am pretty impressed with the DR of the D700
I picked up one of the newer HMC/chipped ones on the B&S a few months back. For basically $300 this lens is a ridiculous value, and manual focus is nothing to be scared of with an ultra-wide. It rivals my Tokina 100 macro for relatively cheap lenses people should own "just because".
