From last week's rugby matches - entertainment for a dreary day. Comments appreciated - decided not to crop strand of hair, rather stay more authentic.
Rugger in the middle (#1) is asking for a trip to the ER not playing with a mouthpiece!
Your Rugby photos are consistently good. Number 1 I wish there was just a little more depth of field but overall a nice pic. I might consider cloning out the partial player on the upper left side of the photo
Pic #3 looks soft to me so I would say add some sharpening especially to the eyes.

Barbara,
Thanks for looking and the suggestions - I don't know how I can screw up focus at 1/1000 sec but I sometimes manage to do it - always have. Plus, I intentionally kept the clarity and sharpening down thus degrading the crispness. That said, focus is still the fundamental problem.
As you note, this particular venue most frequently produces a really busy background.
Another pair of matches tomorrow but the atmosphere will be lacking - brilliant sun & temp ~75. We'll see what that brings in addition to sunscreen
These are well captured. I would try a bit (not too much) high pass on some of the portraits, just to bring out that grungy, dirty feel. I haven't shot rugby in years, refreshing to see.
Although it feels visually cramped, there's something about the stare in the second image that lifts it to a level of interesting and somewhat compelling.
