Having owned G-series cams and the Nikon 7700, I think the latter is your best bet. A 60mm increase at the long end is pretty substantial in my book. Also, the images from the P7700 are clean enough and sharp enough to allow quite bit of cropping ... giving you an "apparent" increase in focal length. The 7700 has great IQ, great build, usable performance up to ISO 1600 and really handles well.
