This year I got:

* CPS Toque
* CPS Golf shirt
* Microfiber cloth
* Penlight
* Purolator shipping labels
----------------------------
Sold the toque, golf shirt and penlight for $60 net to me.
CPS membership dues: $113
--------------------------------
Adjusted cost of CPS membership: $113 - $60 = $53
-------------------------------------------------------
Bought two lenses so far this year.
CPS discount worth about $500 - $53 cost of CPS membership = $447 net gain

However, in Canada we do not get any free cleaning vouchers. Big ducking deal. I wouldn't want Canon techs to clean my lenses and cameras anyways.

They wouldn't touch them either with all the BIF droppings from above as they would need to wear protective clothing, take extra precautions in disposing of the cleaning swabs. Hazardous waste you know.

I just couldn't resist pointing that out.

That is not a problem, Robert. Them birds like to poop on my car for some reason. Never had a bird load dropped on my gears, or on m'self for that matter.

Back to the subject. If things develop the way we hope, this year we should be able to save big time owing to our CPS discount. The 200-400L alone will see a discount of at least $1,000, and then I expect a similar price break on 1DY later this year, or early in 2014.
As people always say, gotta spend money in order to make money.

Hi, I've been told that the CPS discount is only 5% off MSRP, so that lens would need to be about $20K to save that much? Have I been misinformed? (or am I mis-remembering?) Whenever I asked CPS they told me I have to ask the retailers about the discount, it varies from item to item. My memberhip is only Gold though (and due to the story behind the CPS Canada thread I posted here, I may not be renewing / renewed).

I think it's 5% over vendor cost..

edit : cost to them being a special number provided by Canon...not their standard cost..end result being I tink they net 5% of the sale

Okay thanks, that could explain the big discount. I think I've only inquired on it once, for a 35/1.4, and was less than thrilled with the discounted price from a local retailer. That may simply be because it's a relatively cheap lens, and discounts Stateside were much better. In any event I opted to buy used.

Sorry, I pulled it off-topic. No renewal notice/kit for me yet, mine is usually in the Spring I think. (And I may not be renewing / renewed in any case... )

OK, boys, here is the math. Any similarity to actual events will be strictly coincidental.

The lens, i.e., 200-400L, will be introduced in Canada at $12,499 MSRP.
Upon its release, no dealer will be prepared to give you a penny discount from MSRP, because there will be so few lenses available. (If you have a lineup of customers in your store waving at you with with their credit cards, that is not an ideal time to start discounting your prices.)

I reckon the CPS price will be $10,999, which is $1,500 lower than the best price at that time.

Peter,

Is that an official Canadian price for the zoom?

No, Charles, that is just my assumption..........I was only trying to show the magnitude of the CPS discount we were probably looking at.
