Justin, thanks for the thoughtful suggestion, though I suspect it would have the opposite effect: darkening the mountains = removing atmosphere = bringing them 'closer' = less separation for the island (?). At one point I tried a darker blend for the entire background, and that threw off the balance of light with the moon (making the moon too prominent), so I backed off of that one. I could certainly process further to make the island separate even more, however; does anyone else think I really need more separation there?
To answer your question about the buildings, I believe that they are all related to the church (which has the big tower). Tourists can take a boat out to the church and ring its bell, which is supposed to bring good luck.
Again, thanks for the comments, and please don't anyone hesitate--with any of the photos I post--to point out anything that is hindering your enjoyment of the image.
Oh, and Rob, it's in Slovenia, not far from the border with Austria.
