With all of the "this isn't right and that isn't right" threads, it would be good to see what people do like about Canon.

I'll start with lenses. I couldn't imagine doing without:
* 50L
* 135L
* 24-70 2.8 II (which is nothing short of amazing!)

What do you like?

I like their 24s...the 24 1.4 II and the 24 TS-E II.

These two lenses are phenomenal.

I tried to sell one thinking I don't need both, but couldn't do it.

IQ, high ISO performance of the new generation cameras, touch and feel, ergonomy, lens line and quality of ooc JPEGs. Canon gave me and still gives me what I need and asked for.

I like Canon's long-term system thinking. In 1987, in the face of howls of protest, Canon make a sharp break with its past system and introduced the EOS / EF system as its approach to Autofocus and electronic camera and lens control and integration. Its main competitor chose to use a variety of kludges and hybrids, eventually arriving at something similar to the Canon system some time later.

I like Canon's image quality and colours.

I like Canon's lens systems for breadth and depth.

I like Canon's ergonomics.

Like--

Products. Competent, available, updated frequently.
Support. Competent, available, responsive.

Don't like--

Pricing. Too high.
Warranty. Too short on L lenses.
Product segmentation. Arbitrary.
Lack of imagination in product design.

I hated them for that, I had a wonderful set of FD lenses.

I really just look at a camera as a tool and I've been with Canon since about 1976 and have never had a reason to change (I always thought the FD lenses were far better than the Nikkors at that time although I did used to drool a bit over the Nikon F2s Photomic)

What I like most about Canon now is reliablity, the 1-series build and design and the quality of the lenses. They just do what I need them to do month after month and almost never let me down.

I've been lucky with their repair service too

I'd have to think about it for a while. I'm not happy with the direction that Nikon and Canon are taking with cameras, but lenses are surely improving.

- Great all around performance of 5D3
- Stellar workhorse zooms 24-70 II and 70-200 II
- Supertelephoto lineup
- Minor personal preferences like what I perceive to be better ergonomics, more intuitive in-camera menus, etc
- CPS

High precision AF sensors, when they work as advertised. ;-)

As a Nikon shooter, I'll tell you what I like about Canon.

The way the 5d3 feels in my hands! The d800 is uncomfortable.

When the 7d2 materializes, I will consider moving over if Nikon does not improve ergonomics. I'm tired of hand and finger cramps

I like the colors and ergonomics of Canon; nikon skin tends to look plasticky and oversaturated to my eye. I suppose that saturation could be softened in post processing, but not sure about skin. As mentioned, the Nikon lens matrix is messy compared to to the single restriction "ef-s is crop only".

135L and 24mm f1.4 Mk2. Also like the ergonomics on the 5 and 7 series bodies.

The vast array of available, high quality lenses, some of which are unique, like e.g. the new TS-E's, MP-E 65mm, and the new super-teles.

Right now I enjoy my 5DmkIII, 24-70mkII and new 600mm f4 mkII very much

Likes in order of importance:
1. Ergonomics (I have big hands)
2. The colors; I really like skin tones on Canon
3. Lens lineup. 70-200 2.8IS is a masterpiece. I also like the direction of their new lenses (even if Sigma positively shocked me with the new 35 1.4!)
4. Robust level of 3rd party support for Canon; I was very close to switching to the Sony A99 because I really like EVF and I really really like swivel screens but my concern about 3rd party support for Sony DSLRs and my preference for Canon colors kept me in the Canon camp. Never considered Nikon because of the ergonomics

Dislikes in no particular order:
1. Maddening refusal to put a swivel screen on a full frame
2. Shadows still suck at any Iso range; what can be done with shadows in post is still very limited
3. Canon hasn't made a 50mm that is beyond reproach. I have the 50L and I'm not at all satisfied with its sharpness; and for the price the AF should be a lot snappier. A 50mm is the easiest kind of prime to make; there is no excuse for this

Amazing camera even when it was $3500.

I bought into Canon originally because the 350D was the best intro camera at the time and i felt that Canon's lens lineup was both broader and cheaper. I now have a small number of fairly decent lenses and a used 5D that cost me much less than any FF offering from Nikon would have. Though i am 5 years from the bleeding edge where most folk here are at, i am very satisfied with what i own and i doubt i would own the capability i have if i had not bought Canon.
