I'm not 100% sure that it'll work, but have you tried one of those EXIF readers? Some cameras record the shutter actuations on the files.

That'd be 20,460 in decimal.

For all future Googlers: the shutter count is stored in the Unique Image ID. Find a website that does hexadecimal to decimal (google for "hex to dec converter"), then paste the Unique Image ID in. You can ignore the leading zeros (i.e.: 4fec is enough).

HauntedHat got it correctly. 20,000 is what I shoot in about 3 years. Obviously, professionals shoot a lot more frames with their cameras. Thorsten Overgaard says he has 120,000 actuations on his M9 since September 2008, for an average of 111 photos a day.

The images come in from this M9 with 50mm ASPH, is amazing.

Good luck with your M9 Jonathan. I use the 50/1.4 ASPH with film and it's great there too.

Not sure if this works on the m9 but I have used it on my m8 to get the shutter count

Turn the camera on.
Press the right arrow key 4 times.
Press the left arrow key 3 times.
Press the right arrow key 1 more time.
Press the info button.
Scroll down to body debug data.
Press Set.
Scroll down to NUMEXPOSURES.

Turn camera off to exit........
