p.1 #1 · Close encounter with a Javelina (Tucson AZ)

I went out to Sabino Canyon National Park with my friend today. I was searching for birds but came across everything but.
These Javelina walked by while we were photographing some Cous Whitetail Deer. I decided it would be a good idea to get up close and personal with them.

400mm no crop

220mm no crop

And a Portrait for fun.

Thanks for the comment and the heads up. I think the pics should be fixed now.

Jeremy, I really like the second image.
Interesting subject, good comp and just about the "right" amount of environment.

Nice set Jeremy. They have flexible snouts, and that last one is directed towards you.

These look very nice. My only suggestion is to somehow attach a mountain lion to one...wishful thinking I guess.

Hahaha. I wish. But I was very close like under 10 feet so I don't know if I would want a mtn lion that close.

Also I never noticed the snout. Very cool. Thanks for pointing it out K.

Great photos. Javelina are interesting critters. If you ever have the chance, watch their mating behavior. They line up side-by-side, facing opposite directions, and rub each other's butts with their tusks, while turning in circles. Very peculiar. We have an abundance of them in south and west Texas.

Beauties. How would he taste roasted on a spit?

Nice work Jeremy, especially since we don't see too many of them on this forum

They aren't very good table fare in my opinion. They have very strong musk glands that must be removed immediately and with great care, otherwise the glands will taint the meat.

Most do not know that they are not a swine, but a type of rodent. If you want good table fare then I'd suggest pursuing feral hogs.

#2 for me shows just enough habitat for that natural look, very nice.
