Howdy,
I did have the opportunity to photograph the Hispaniolan Woodpecker (Melanerpes striatus) in the Dominican Republic. It is very similar to the Jamaican Woodpecker (Melanerpes radiolatus). The DR's Woodpecker has a bit of a black patch on the top of the head, which the Jamaican Woodpecker does not. It is very similar to our Northern Flicker, but its' flight pattern is quite different and really hard to capture a shot while it's flying.
It is a loud vocalizing woodpecker that loves coconuts.
Here are 6 photos for your enjoyment, your C & C is always welcome.
Photos 2,3,4,5 were taken using a Canon Mark IV with the 70-200mm f/2.8 version II in conjunction with the 2.0X Extender version III. I was quite happy with the results.
