The quandary - spend a bunch for needed Nikon AF glass on a camera I use for landscapes using MF lenses or get a camera that addresses shortcomings of 5D MKII ( 1DX- top notch AF, high FPS, clean images above ISO 3200)
So a thinking photographer made a rational decision based on the equipment (lenses) that he already had
You Canonistas (Nikon gear heads too) crack me up. Gear today is soo flaming amazing if one brand doesn't work for you, the alternative aint gonna help

Yep it cracks me up too. Like the saying bad photographers blame their equipment.
Well in this day and age of Technology, guess what equipment fails, cameras have both mechanical and electronic failures, camera's have left side focus issues, sensor alignment issues, or sling oil on the sensor after 600 or so shots.
Sometimes certain equipment works better for one person than it does another. I too learned the hard way. Its not if we can or cannot shoot with different brands of camera's or not, its the fact that one or more models or a particular brand may be found to be less troublesome for a particular person.
So yeah it cracks me up Tim that sometimes a casual observer thinks they understand the logic behind another person's motives when they have absolutely no clue.
