Peter it all started me thinking with your quote from Lars 1DX thread.
"Remember, that will be a very special day for your niece, and her uncle Robert must not disappoint with gears which are less than the best. Remember, you will not get a second chance to shoot your niece's wedding. Make it right the first time, Robert."

What are you coming from?
The landscape shooting of the wandering lost - Canikon. D800E, 5D MKII.
The quandary - spend a bunch for needed Nikon AF glass on a camera I use for landscapes using MF lenses or get a camera that addresses shortcomings of 5D MKII ( 1DX- top notch AF, high FPS, clean images above ISO 3200)

Smaller wad, Canadian CPS Gold lightens the load (Thanks to Peter and Jim's continuous suggestions to join)

Add one or two of the Mark II superteles and you are in hog heaven . Actually, I have been mightily impressed with the 24-70mm Mark II for a walk-around wide to short tele zoomlens.
Or a 200-400. - The 24-70 MKII I'm impressed too.

Robert, I must remind you about one last chance Nikon has to upstage Canon with lenses.......and that is 800VR. If they blow it there, the game is over.....then you might as well sell all Nikon bodies (and lenses) you've got left.
They already did. What was it $18000 or some god awful amount. The only Nikon glass I have are lenses that Canon currently has no direct equivalent for. I mainly use MF alts on the D800E.

Save some cash for the 1DXS...it should be out by XMAS.
That would make Peter's previous statement come to pass.

Repent your sins .
I did, I kneeled before Father's Stan, Peter,Jim, Lars confessed my transgressions and they said your penance is pray for forgiveness, stop running away from your written vows then be an angel and build a home alter and place on it a holy trinity of 1DX,70-200 MKII, and 24-70MKII. Then we will all celebrate and drink from the chalice.
At the end of the day, the posts the Jedi Masters made about the 1DX/5D MKIII, reading various reviews, and my experience shooting the D800E and 5D MKII kept me coming to the conclusion that the best solution for myself is a 1DX.
For my niece's wedding they decided it is very casual, no suits or ties, no formal posing, and 1/3 of the guests are kids. They want the photography to reflect the casualness of the event as it unfolds.
