p.1 #1 · Where will the price of the 1ds3 end?

It seems that whenever the 5d3 drops in price, so does the 1ds3. At this point, I'm really tempted to pick one up for when I'm in less than optimal conditions such as rain or snow.

Where do you think the price of the 1ds3 will end at?

Well, in 20 years it'll be essentially worthless. But I suppose it'll still sell for probably $100 then. Tough to tell.

I'm hoping they stay a bit high so I don't bench my 1Ds2 to buy one. To date my 1Ds2 has done everything I've asked it to but we all know "newer is better" thanks to the way advertising companies have been brainwashing us from the first day we actually watched / read / heard an ad.

In technology, that's not brainwashing... It's normally the truth. Of course, that's a completely different question than whether or not "the old" is good enough / adequate for your needs.

For the photography I do (landscape and architecture, no sports, no weddings) I'd much rather have a 1DsIII in excellent condition for say $2,400 - 2,500 than a 5DIII for say $2,900 unless one of the features of the 5DIII (e.g. faster fps, higher iso, brighter viewing screen, etc.) was important to me (which it isn't). Focusing is at least as good and as fast, image quality is at least as good, and you're getting a pro camera built like a brick (of course it weighs almost as much as a brick too : - )). Full disclosure: I own a 1DsIII and have no thought of selling it and buying a 5DIII.

Obviously nobody can really answer your question. But my guess is that the used prices for the 1DsIII will remain about where they are now until a successor to the 5DIII or a similar new camera in the future is announced or until the prices of 5DIIIs drop significantly.

It will probably go down 40-60% in value every 3-4 years like most other cameras...

Optimist. Eventually, there will be a nominal disposal/recycling fee to properly extract the toxic trace materials in the electronics, before grinding up the rest for low-grade filler. Before then, there should be quite a few years of good photographic use left.

It would be easier to tell the decade old shot if you presented the 20x30 prints

Just browsing thru the flickr samples. He is not my kid and i actually like the ones took by decade older cam better (5d3 vs 1Dc). Try to make a point here

There is no point here...post some in really high ISO...or some with really fast action or...video from a decade old one...like jeffrey said..on the internet...even my phone pic you can't tell a difference.
