p.1 #1 · black dots on mirror? oil?

My d800 has a couple of these. Obviously doesn't harm the photos, but is rather annoying. I've never had this issue before... if this is oil, do normal cleaning procedures apply? Perhaps I'll try to post a picture, still not sure that the black dots are oil... (just had heard about this issue with latest Nikon bodies)

is this when you look through the viewfinder you see black dots or if you take the lens off and look at the mirror itself?

if it's the viewfinder then use a rocket blower on the screen just above the mirror or set the camera on CL mode and fire off a burst and sometimes the slapping of the mirror will knock off the dust from the viewfinder screen.

If it's oil or dust it would not be unusual. One ore two cleanings and it will be fine. Until the next cleaning is needed.

Especially if you were shooting in Utah recently...
