Looks like there will be no D400 after all.

This spell bad news for high fps crowd. Their only option is now D4. Really!

Still takes the En-el15 - nice for D800 owners.

Full 1080 60fps and 1/320 sync speed, upgraded AF, and a cropped crop mode?

Upon quick look, I see that the d300 shoots at 6fps without battery grip. Maybe the d7100 will be the same and get 8fps with bg?

Looks like a solid upgrade. I'm still planning on upgrading from my D7000 to the D800, though.

1/320 sync!! sweeeettt that's what I am talking about - Indeed alot to like, 6fps is plenty for 99.99999 % and if you fall in the other .01 percent then you should probably have a D4 anyways. or get a D700 w a grip

10FPS without the D4 price tag would be nice. Plus the higher pixel density is a plus for birders. Still the D7100 is definitely workable with a nice price tag in comparison.

It's a lot of camera for $1200, really. But with no d400 (Nikon is advertising as the "flagship dx"), that means the cheapest Nikon dslr with a PC-sync and/or AF-on button is the d800 for $3000.

That's rather discouraging.

The Nikon rep I spoke to about it called this their flagship DX camera "for now." If you really, really want a D400 you could read that optimistically, but I think they were just covering their asses and don't actually expect to produce one.

It's not really 1/320 - It's 1/250. Same as D300 and higher and no different than the D7000 was, so it's not "an upgrade." You have the option of setting it to 1/320 but you may notice some darkening due to the shutter just starting to interfere.

If it's like the D7000, you can program the AE-L/AF-L button to serve as a AF-On button.

Sorry, but 6 fps is way too slow for me. I should think that Nikon would make at least an 8 fps DX camera even if it has less Mp, needs a battery grip and is very expensive. Obviously, you must lose a full stop (at least-since DX has 40% the area of FX) of hi ISO performance to get the DX reach. Even if a D8XXX cost $2500/3000 that would be cheaper than buying the next up super Tele FL.

The D7100 will get you increased pixel density over the D800.

Edit: Didn't see you put a third "X" in the name. lol Maybe that is what the current unicorn (D400) will bring.

Is it just me or does the top screen look a little bigger than the D7000? My complaint about using the D7000 was the top screen was too small for someone like me who's finally reaching the point of needing some type of glasses. If they changed it out, that's a big plus for the 7100.
