Portable HD, laptop, CF cards. 3 copies, all in different bags. CFs stay on my person until I get home.

You could copy locally and then FedEx the cards to yourself. ;-)

All of my cameras have two card slots with identical RAW files being written to both. I also use big cards for this reason. So each camera has a card left in it, the duplicate cards are on my person, and I backup once to a laptop or hard drive. If you were super paranoid you could UPS or Fedex one set of cards to yourself depending on what region you were in.

How do you deal with static and x-rays for the hard drives? Yeah... pretty noob question.

X-ray won't hurt a hard drive.

Static shouldn't be a problem esp if drive is in an enclosure. They are designed for daily use that may involve some static discharge.

If you're shooting with a dual card camera, mirror your RAW files onto both cards. Keep one set of cards in your bag, and fedex the other set home.

Yeah. Just that the SD card performance with the 5d3 is pretty slow and frustrating. Because of that I actually leave the SD card in there as an overflow storage.

I think dumping into a portable drive make sense. having said that I do have a few internal hdd that I can use. Should i go that route internal hdd + docking station vs portable drive?
