Who has found the need to calibrate their new iMac? How far off was it out of the box?

Not bad. A bit on the cool side. Is it for professional work?

Every monitor can benefit from calibration. Especially if you're going to do any printing. A basic calibration device is a good investment -- or you could even rent one: http://www.lensrentals.com/rent/calibration/colormunki#.USPINqUqZ7g

I just calibrated my new 27 iMac with Colormunki. It was also a bit cool, as morganb4 found. You can make a print andcompare to see if it is close enough for you. You also have to turn down the brightness quite a bit to get prints to match.
