p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sitting low on the freezing dirt

All Canon 7D, 800mm, -.33, 1/2000

Hi Friends,

I got some nature photos today. I have been listening to Conrad's advice to getting low to photograph the ducks. I do not like the cold weather especially when it is below freezing and super windy. Today the temperature never rose above freezing and the wind was vicious. The wind was strong enough to create white caps on the lake! I dressed completely warm except for wearing my wind pants so my knees were freezing My fingertips were so cold they got shutter burn

Edit: I just heard that the wind gusts were in the middle 30s coupled with the below freezing temps, no wonder my knees were freezing!

I was a good girl and sat my butt down on the cold dirt with my tripod very low. Today wasn't easy, it was anything but easy

My Big Buddy was swimming with his lady but none of his photos were up to par Hopefully next time!

Picture 1 - Ruddy

f6.3, ISO400

I know that photographing the ducks low gets lots of merit. I hope you liked? If not, there is always tomorrow
The Ruddy was having a hard time with the very furious choppy waves

Picture 2 - Ruddy

f5.6, ISO400

Compared to the other close ups of Ruddy's I photographed in my past threads, I seem to like this Ruddy best because he has kind of a white neck so he stands out more than the dreary dark brown color.

Picture 3 - Ruddy

f6.3, ISO400

Watch out my sweet little Ruddy a big wave is heading your direction you better make a fast dive

Picture 4 - Two Ruddys

f6.3, ISO400

There were over a half a dozen Ruddys out swimming together today.

Picture 5 - Mr. and Mrs. Domestic Ducks

F10, ISO 800

I was excited that their eyes and beaks were side my side like sweet love birds

I love their colorful beaks side by side!

Picture 6 - Domestic Duck

f11, ISO800

If it was a beautiful Summer day that water would look so refreshing to be wading in! But, since it was freezing and there was ice on the edges of the lake, the ducks can have it.

Hope you all enjoyed your stroll with me again at my lake. I am so happy you always tag along with me.
It is always very much appreciated!

I am still keeping an eye out for Grebes. They are still on my list.

CYA all, Til next time!

There's nothing like a low pov. Sitting there must've been fiercely cold, though.

A very nice set Monarda. The low angle does help too. 2 and 3 are my picks ~ Ron

Oh that is cold!!! I've become a wimp and get cold when our temps get down in the 40's. It was worth it for you though. Cute Ruddy.

Nice series of duckies. Low angle works well. As with other folks, getting up after few hours shooting is tough for me too. Great work

Well worth the efforts, Monarda. The low perspective allows a good separation of the subject making it stand out more
