I tend to lean towards a little contrasty, but less contrasty is giving up more detail.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Contrasty for sure, IMHO. But then again, I tend to prefer more contrast over less.

Hard to call. I'd say less contrasty, with a bit of the contrasty sky thrown in.

The first might be less natural but I feel it's the stronger image.

I too feel like the 1st one is stronger, therefore I like it a bit more. Nicely done.

1st is my pick. Nice work either way, but I tend to agree with those wanting a bit more contrast (more blacks, more whites) as it pops more....btw, where is this?

Thanks for all the feedback. I really appreciate it. This was on Mesquite Dunes in DV.

Number one is my favorite, but it was hard to tell the difference on my monitor.

Mitch,
I think you need a new blend...dune from #1 with sky from #2. Wonderful work.

Contrasty, but why not recover the shadow detail in the clumps of trees?

I guess I could have. The bushes offered very little in terms of interest to the image IMHO. I intentionally added some vignetting so that the eye would not stop there, but continue to the clouds.

Thanks for the feedback, I can try it that way and see what it does.

RAW file included. Very low contrast to begin with.

You have done a good job with what you started with. I agree a blend of the two should work even better.

Cheers Ray

I think the first shot works better than the first. Whatever your initial reaction is to how a photo should look is usually what you should go with. The second shot also has some strange banding going on in the upper left hand corner

Hi - you might be a great candidate for IR black-white - if you like those dramatic skies...this photo is from a modified Nikon D200 - modified for B/W IR...with the 16-85 Nikon zoom

I have always been drawn to IR. Perhaps in my near future.

Mitchell, Very nice shot and #2 for me. Contrast is good but the higher you go the more detail you lose. I think on a subject like this where you want to see detail less is better.
