Dealt with something to this on a MUCH smaller scale when I was deputized (as the "family photographer") to deal with my late Uncle Henry's camera collection. My uncle never met a yard sale camera he did have to have I believe there were around 40 cameras (lots of Kodak) and maybe 60 lenses and who knows how many filters, adapters, flashes, etc. Unfortunately there wasn't a single Leica in the whole d*mn lot! It took a fair amount of time, but I sectioned it into reasonably similar lots, described and photographed them, then eBayed the whole of it. I don't think I netted $500 for all the effort.
I can't image anyone dropping $35k (much less $45K) on a total unknown. It is intriguing to watch sellers on eBay that will list a camera beyond what it is commonly selling for and relist over and over again at the same price. Maybe they think - as a real estate agent friend of mine once remarked - that their DNA makes it more valuable
