Now for the short ones.

Conrad, try this sorta thing, swimming ducks are extremely easy in comparison: 7D + 8-15mm f/4 Fish Eye, shot at 8mm FL.

Bad light, bad high ISO camera.......so IQ at ISO 3200 is not very good.

Great set Peter. Long-tailed shots are superb. Ontario Dove images are neat. Lots of potential in that short lens.

Thank you, Ken, I am only sorry I didn't get 8-15L sooner. When I finally get to the Raptor Conservancy, 8-15L lens is the one which will see some action, this was just a feasibility study. Even if I was into it, which I am definitely not, baiting wild (or semi-wild ) raptors doesn't cut it.....in order to get a viable shot at 8mm, a bird has to practically land on your lens. So we are talking captive birds only.

Thank you, Tam.....the 800L + 1.4xTC III combo has a decent ability of resolving feather detail.

Thank you Jerry, ole bean, good gears make a difference. In fact, if you can attract birds to alight on your hand with offering of seeds, you should be able to get their picture in flight with a very wide angle lens. When your plan/gears are ready, I'll share a few little tips with you.

Actually, it came very close to that a few times, and one of them tried to get a grip on the front objective of the lens.......for a moment I thought that the glass coating was marred permanently ....thankfully, those were just smudges that I could clean off.

Thank you much Ashley.
Some time ago I did a similar BIF test with 15mm Fish Eye (the old prime), and then last year did it with 16-35L @ 16mm. Now with 8mm FL it's the and of this sorta experimenting.....Canon makes nothing wider than that.

Ron, thank you kindly.......1120mm FL pulls the detail in pretty good, particularly on (still) superb IQ camera such as 1DsMkII, as long as ISO is no more than 400-800, depending on the degree of cropping, scene luminance and such.
