Just got back from a few days in DV. Of all the amazing things to see there I am most fascinated by the dunes. Heading out every morning in the total darkness hoping to land in a nice vantage point by the time the first light arrives so you can start to try and find a composition and then wait for the 3 mins of really soft beautiful early light and hope it all comes together. Once that is over the next task of the day was to start and find interesting shadows, patterns and textures then sleep add coffee and repeat, here are the first few ..... C&C is always appreciated, thanks for viewing, Dean
What very cool shots you have here. You came away with some sweet shots of the dunes. #2 is a really interestings shot that kind of twists the brain a bit... nice work.
As to shooting the dunes in the morning. I tried that once, realized the futility in it to try and find compositions in the pitch dark, so I no longer shoot the dunes in the morning, I save them for afternoon shots where I can set up before the sunset and wait for the good light to come to me... My mornings are spent shooting Bad Water, Zabriski Point, etc, places where it's easier to see and set up in while it's dark.
Wonderful shots of sand dunes at Death Valley, Dean.
I love #3 with interesting patterns.
I also went to this dune morning and evening. Sunset shot was easier for me to compose.
I am now at Lee Vining shooting tufas, but I am going back to DV. I plan to go to Mesquite Sand Dunes one more time before heading home.
