The unusual spelling is because that he is French. I would not have guessed.

Very nice mate.
A stunning portrait. ... Love the beautiful creamy background and he is just popping out of it.

Amazing portrait. One of your best, and that's saying a lot. I love everything about this.

I like this, Dein, but I'm wondering if you may have been too close using a too-wide lens. His face has that slightly misshapen look to it- emphasizing his lips and the Gallic nose.
Of course, it might also simply be the natural shape. Not everyone has "Hollywood looks."

Thank you, Andre, bbourizk, Jim, psknapp, Charlie, and Anil.
Charlie, I used a rented Olympus OM-D with 45mm f1.8. The effective focal length is 90mm.

another WOW here! simply amazing. I wish I had the confidence (read:balls) to approach people on the street to try these - something that is currently outside my comfort zone. thanks for sharing. truly inspiring.

I just looked at the three posts up from you. You have this habit of dodging the hell out of the eye area on
all of your portraits. it looks alien to me.

Thank you, imagebyjay and dbsdaddy.

tonebag (I love that name), beginning this Wednesday, Feb. 20, my blog will have a three part series on Fear (of approaching strangers). http://www.deinfaces.com/blog/

jprezant, Oompf - right in the solar plexus. I admit it, I'm an eye guy and I do emphasize eyes in post processing. I'll keep your comment in mind, as I might be drifting into over processing. Thank you for your thoughts.

Wow. Very nice. Care to tell a newb how to get the eyes like that? Mine are never that sharp...

Settings used? Thanks!

Thank you, azng.

I use a Nikon D90, usually with an 85mm f1.8 at f2.4 or 2.8. I have assigned focus to a button on the back of the camera, so that focus and metering are separate. The active focus point is in the center, and I am in AF-C with continuous (burst) mode. In pp, I do lighten and sharpen the eyes. If you scroll up a few entries, you will see that one observer doesn't like the extent that I emphasize the eyes. It is all to taste.
