Took the long ride from home to the upper peninsula to Northern Michigan University. Hadn't been to Marquette in many years. Beautiful old city on the shores of Lake Superior (frozen). Ferris State had 2 hockey and 2 basketball games there this weekend. All games were at the Berry Event Center. They play both sports on the same floor. Lot's of work for the support staff when they have both sports on the same day!
The Berry Event center was nice but not great lighting. On top of that my 1DX broke last week so I had to shoot with my MKlll as my second camera. I remember how excited I was when I got it and the great high ISO abilities it had. Things change.
A nice set here Ben. Sounds like quite a trip - I know you can drive for a long time without leaving Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Were some of these shot over the glass from the stands or a ladder?
Rick: I shot one period from above the glass, from the seats. I wish I'd have brought longer glass. This sheet is Olympic size and it really seemed huge. Thanks for looking.
noticing the skate angle in #3 reminded me just what exceptional athletes hockey players are. anyway, very nice set here. all are crisp with good color and white balance. thanks for sharing.
Nice work Ben, with #7 being an absolute standout for me... and yes, I think longer glass would have really benefitted you, but regardless well done given the circumstances!
