Is f/13 a good f/stop? I mention that because in testing out my 500 with FoCal lens testing software anything past f/8 degraded the image IQ thought it may have given more DOF which you might have been after??

Those are Happy Faces Tim Looks like a bit of strawberry jelly on the chin from breakfast perhaps The two poses are distinctively different in character, I do like them both!

Beautiful detail from perfect exposures Tim.
I like the darker coloration on the top-of-head feathers, and very cool to see the many different color tones in the breast feathers.
I know you much prefer shooting bare glass, but the IQ of these two is impressive with the 1.4
Excellent work buddy.

Hi Tim,

I view this forum as a benchmark for images to strive for; thanks for sharing these wonderful captures, and I hope that the rest of your stay in CT was just as productive.

Regards,

Edd

Well.... I hear you and I would tend to agree to not go over that fstop for the most part. I do think a difference between a bare 500 f4 and an 800/1.4 f8 is that they both can shut down but only to a degree, be that degree 3,4 or whatever stops before degradation occurs. Just my guess.

Yeah that guy eat my PBJ and made a mess of himself

Thank you Karl

Thank you Kruk!!! I too like the dark feathers in this case. Yes I do like bare lenses best but as you well know with the right light a TC can rock it
