Just as it would have looked some 200 plus years ago....it was cold during the American Revolution...Nice shot... if it wasn't 60F here, I would put another log on the fire...

Great image Russ. Perfect theme for the weather I hear about...mind you, I wore a t-shirt today in Tejas

Its hard to tell on an iPad, but have you sharpened the image? Reason I ask, is that I find the HDR process I do using Photomatix needs post processing noise reduction but also some snap sharpening on my photos. If you haven't sharpened, you may want to experiment. If you did, 'nuff said, it's a great picture and worth the trudge and healthy exercise getting it.

Russ, you have done a nice job with a shot that can prove difficult to expose properly. In addition, that virgin snow is the perfect surrounding for your subject no doubt!

p.1 #5 · Making the best of this weekend's blizzard in New England

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I almost bit off more than I could chew with this one...what is a 5 minute walk in the summer took me an hour in the 2 feet of snow. I had to stop every 15-20 steps to take a break because the snow was so damn deep. There were a couple of times where I wondered if this was such a good idea. I did not have snow shoes...stupid I know.

I had to climb over 2 stone fences. I fell down a few times. The snow was so deep, I had trouble getting up as there was no firm ground to lean on to get up. I kept hearing the trees creaking and was thinking one of them might come down...

It was like an episode of Survivor...only I was 1/2 mile off the main road...

Nicely done. Unfortunately this last storm really made me miss NH even more. Especially with my town getting 34", which would have made for some really nice drifts to jump into with my kids!

That is a gorgeous image Russ. I am typically not a fan of the harsh HDR images, but this one pushes it just far enough. It has the feel of a graphite sketch, which I love, and wonderful detailing. I would hang this on my wall without a doubt.

Thanks Fred and all for the feedback.

I understand what you mean about the overdone HDR...I find b&w and little more forgiving. Of course, the style isn't for everyone...

I used a similar approach on this shot...lots of contrast and structure in the b&w conversion, but this was done from a single exposure.

Well worth the effort. Thanks for the story, too. I have been there, and done that, you have been waiting for the conditions to b right, and it paid off.

Thanks again for all the positive comments gents.

I look for structures with a lot of texture to do this with...
