Do you use a 24-70 f2.8 on a crop body camera?
I love my D7000, I expect to use it for 2+ years. Currently I have the 50mm f1.8AF lens on the camera.
My only other AF lens is a 18-70 lens left over from my D70s. I also have and use several AIs primes, 20mm, 55mm micro, 105 f1.8.
I have never owned a VR lens. Right now, for me, not owning a VR is like not owning an automatic transmission car, I do not know what I am missing, but, the car still goes.
I expect the replacement for the D7000 will be a FX, as all but one of my lenses work with FX.
That said, I would like to buy a new lens for the D7000. I am considering the 24-70mm f2.8. I know it is a FX. If I purchase it I will be paying in excess weight and size without all the benefits of FX while I use it on the D7000.
My reason for considering it as a first choice as my next lens is that the focal length seems to cover 80-90% of what I shoot with the D7000, focal length wise.
Plus everybody seems to really like the results of that particular lens
I do not want to buy a DX equivalent today, only to have to replace it when the FX body is purchased in a couple years, especially considering the DX eq lens would only be a few hundred dollars less.
So my questions are;
For my circumstances is a 24-70mm f2.8 lens a good or bad decision?
If not that lens then what?
(P.S. - I have looked at the Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5 - 5.6G and could not bring myself to buy that particular lens)
