p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · How many camera bags do you have?

Although this is certainly a general gear poll, I'm particularly interested in how Canon SLR shooters store, shuffle and carry their stuff. For the purpose of this poll, please do not count:
Small pouches for P&S cameras, individual lenses (no matter how large), speedlites, etc.
Tripod bags, lighting bags, etc.

Do count:
Shoulder bags
Back packs
Roller bags or cases that you use primarily for DSLR bodies and lenses
Waist belt systems that can hold a lot of gear

If you want to mention some details, please do. I have two ancient Domke shoulder bags and a small Tamrac, an even older Tenba, an "Outpack" backpack, an official Canon backpack from the end of the previous millennium, a Tamrac roller case, a Kinesis waist belt system, and a Gura Gear Battaflae backpack (newest and most loved). Clearly I fit in the last poll category. Oh well...

I've got over 7 for my gear -- not because they are worthless. Most are top-end Lowepro shoulder bags, pretty big and well padded, down to their new modular waist-belt for short hiking around. My favorites are the Commercial AW MF, Commercial AW DV, Commercial AW Magnum and Commercial AW Compact. (These are now the 200, 400, and 600 AW series.)

LowePro Slingshot 200 AW (first bag that I outgrew, but still have)
Tamrac Aerospeed 85 (outgrown)
Gura Gear Kiboko (travel with my 500 f4)
F-Stop Loka (hiking or travel without the 500)
Tamrac Ultra Pro 5670 (extra gear on location)
Pelican 1600 (travel by car)
Think Tank Modular Belt System (shooting sports)
and I forgot my Vanguard Uprise 38 (carry to work with laptop and a Oakley Bicycling Backpack that I made an insert for(never know what you might ride up on).
Too much gear... and I still want the F-Stop Satori for backpacking.

- Canon 100-DG
- Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home
- Lowepro Toploader Zoom 50 AW

I used to put all my lenses in the 100-DG but quickly outgrew that. I now store them in a plastic bin that can fit far more lenses.

The 5mdh is my primary walkaround bag if I need to carry a camera + lens. I don't like it, though, since it feels too bulky and doesn't have enough storage space.

My Lowepro was actually intended as a temporary bag, but I use this the most. It's small and fits my 5D3 plus most of my lenses. It's also relatively unassuming.

Twenty bags here.
Ten of those are also being used for lens storage at home.
About 2-3 I hardly use, as they were bought either on impulse, or just in case I might need them some day.

I have three I use regularly - a backpack, a Domke shoulder bag, and a Think Tank holster. A bunch of others sit in my closet, doing nothing but keeping the dust off a too-large collection of rarely used digital and film stuff.

ThinkTank Airport Commuter backpack
Seal Line Urban Backpack
Cocotte Fred messenger bag
LowePro Compact AW classic bag
LowePro Vertex 300 AW backpack
LowePro Toploader 75 AW
LowePro Orion kayak deck bag
MEC Travel Shoulder Bag
MEC Flux Sling pack
Domke F-5XB
North Face Base Camp Duffel XS

Plus six or seven small "branded" bags, six hard cases, a stack of Pelican and Otter cases, two big, metal roller boxes (15kg each, empty), and a whole boat load of lens cases. Oh, and a really nice hand truck.

P.S. They all get used, but not at the same time.

Too many... or at least I thought so until I saw what others own.

I have my first Domke that I used when I worked for a newspaper twenty eight some odd years ago.

Then I have four backpacks of varying sizes, three fanny packs of varying sizes and two newer Domke bags.

Most are used to store gear that isn't being used with regularity but I have to admit some are lying around collecting dust.

I have or will have 4 as of next week.

My first ran out if room, I got an even smaller one for Christmas that I could not return, I just bought a larger backpack that will hold everything, and I am about to purchase a Pelican case for travel. It's not that I have a lot of gear, I just have different needs.

Having a name like that, you better not travel to French speaking countries, and if you do, a good sense of humour would be helpful.

Besides, buying dedicated gear bags could be considered wasteful. What's wrong of carrying our gears in regular plastic shopping bags ? They are free, practically indestructible, and come in a great variety of patterns, colours, strengths and sizes.

Not too surprising this would come up, especially after the Holidays when many may have picked up some additionals. Recently I picked up the LowePro Roller as what I now consider to be my "mother ship" having outgrown my last Tamrac Evolution 8 for the lenses. I now have dedicated my Lowepro Slingshot AW100 to day carry outings which is just perfect for a 2 lens combo and camera. I basically never even undid the twist-tie packaging on the Tamrac, never even left the house, so it's being relegated to fleabay along with a very basic tripod that was just used here at the house for product photography. My wife was giving the growing pile of camera bags in the corner of my room last night the "stare" without words...some of you folks know that look! The new LowePro Roller is a very spacious bag and more manageable if I need to transport the gear for a longer trip. It really didn't take too long to fill it up with the glass and stuff, but between that and the shoulder Slingshot I'll manage just fine. I really didn't fit into a voting category as I'll be moving the mid-range backpack out very soon...or at least I keep saying that!
