p.1 #1 · 1DX - Fast lenses = accurate & solid AF

After using my 1DX for about six weeks now, I'm extremely pleased with the accurate AF when using fast lenses like f/1,2 & f/1,4. Especially when shooting wide open or close to that.
It's a big improvement even if I came from the 1Ds3 and 1D4 bodies.
Is that general feeling among 1DX owners? Or is it just me ?

Did you microfocus adjust your lenses first with this camera or are all of them accurate without additional MFA?

A couple of my lenses where adjusted (very little) with FoCal. But most where ok without anything. But I'm in Bangkok so I don't have all my lenses here. I have seven lenses that I use here. Five AF lenses and two MF lenses

Lars, that's my general feeling also, although I've only rented previous 1series from CPS. But the 1DX certainly surpasses all the xxD's, the 7D and even the 5DIII.

I have MA'd all of my lenses, some of which I know are more out of whack than others. But even so, I agree with Lars' observations. Having used the 1DX since July, the AF performance is fantastic.

Ironically, I guess the thing I love the most about the 1DX is the light meter. You just can't fool that thing...

I agree, my 1Dx focuses really nice. But then my 1DsIII focused really nice too. A big step up from my 7D and even my 5DII. Everytime I look at my photos I am amazed what I get out of the camera. Really sharp and crisp, only way I can describe it.

Other camera I have had that don't measure up in this area, 1D, 1DII, 20D, 40D. I always had to help sharpen them with settings in PS. No need to even mess with that now.....

I haven't MFA any of my lens. I shoot almost exclusively with L glass.

The 1Dx absolutely transforms the 85L II. AF is now fast enough to shoot indoor events like gymnastics. AF accuracy is much improved as well. I recently shot birds in flight at close range off the end of a dock set at 12fps Ai-Servo in short bursts without a single frame OOF in about 50 photos.

I've never experienced as big of a jump in AF accuracy with my 35L or 70-200 2.8 II as with my 1DX. They're both like all new lenses, and it shows in the photos.

I agree. I was especially pleased with my 85/1.2L II for low light performance.

Cannot say about 1dx but the sigma 50 1.4 finally works on 5DIII.

Except some MA for my 24L II, my other lenses are now fabulous with the 1Dx. No longer relying on live view and contrast AF to have a perfect match (as I had to do with my 7Ds). Even wide open and handheld with my 135/2.
Un vrai régal !

The fastest lenses I have tried with the 1D X is the 35mm f/1.4L and 135mm f/2L and the AF is just plain fantastic. It just works, and it works fast.

I haven't shot either one, but I don't see why not.

My 1Dx with the 85L II is awesome! Shooting at f1.2 is very accurate.

1DX must be the AF king right now compared to other bodies. I am wonder how much the differences between 1DX and 5D3. Hard to believe they are equally performer even they shared the same AF design. I would think that more on-board prediction & offset AF firmware on 1DX than 5D3. If you have both bodies, please share your outer AF points experience while shooting them with fast lenses. TIA
