p.1 #1 · best lens for using video with d800

Hello all, I'm new here and to the d800, have been happy with my d700's for a few years now.

I'm looking to get into video and have picked up a d800, what lens' would you recommend?

Someone told me the 35mm 2.0d
harder to find...
open to suggestions?
thanks so much!

It would help to have some sort of idea of what you wanted to video tape. What kind of look are you trying to achieve? Family video? Professional video? Travel video?

Recently picked up a samyang 35 1.4

Extremely sharp optics and long focus throw, great manual focus lens. I'd be quite useful for video I'd imagine. In fact, samyang actually makes a few cine lenses.

Look at AIS lenses, they have better focusing rings

Welcome to FM As others mentioned, for video you are better off with a manual focus lens since they usually have better manual focus mechanism//rings (which is essential for video) than AF lenses.

+1 to the Rokinon 35 1.4, it's amazing for video. Also +1 to AIS lenses, particularly the 105 2.5 AIS for a longer reach and the 28 2.8 AIS for going wider and it also has a very close focus distance. If you have the funds, of course nothing beats Zeiss glass for both video & stills.

Just keep in mind, if you want to capture handheld video you're likely to want/need some VR assistance...
