Looking for something for really minimal days. Basically, just want to carry the D600 w/ 1 lens, an iPad, and that's about it. Maybe misc notepad / pens, a water bottle tops.

Was thinking of the Retrospective 7. Only issue is that maybe it's even bigger than what I need?

Yes, the Retro 7 is quite big for that. I usually have a 5D + a lens mounted + a lens stored in the side + iPad + MacBook Air 11" in it. If needed, it is possible to add another lens. Great bag in general.

Retrospective 7 is a great bag for a body + 2 lenses and an iPad. I can also fit sunglasses and an energy bar.
