After a week of near-zero temperatures, we got a lot of ice on the local falls and gorge walls. This was taken at Viaduct Park near Cleveland where Tinker's Creek goes over a broad falls. There wasn't much color in the original, so I thought it worked better in B&W. I used a 10-stop ND to get rid of a lot of not-so-pretty foam on the flowing water.

Less than a week later all the ice was gone after the weather warmed back into the 60s.

D700, 24-70/f2.8.

Happy to hear any suggestions or comments.

P.S. Uploaded edited image with small rock along the lower left edge cloned out. Saw that when I was initially working the image, but forgot to get rid of that sliver of black. Thanks, Mike.

I have attached an updated version with the top of the image brightened and the blacks bumped up a bit. I think the brightening actually makes the overall contrast look stronger. Thanks for the comments and suggestions from all. Dave

that is sweet. Bit more contrast & blacks, but thats personal taste. And clone the little rock on the left at the bend.

I really like this. The composition is wonderful with the lovely curve in the foreground.

The BW conversion worked nicely here. It re-enforced the "cold' look you were going for.
Perfectly composed.

Absolutely lovely, and the BW treatment makes it very special! For me, I would be tempted to crop out most of the trees at the top so the focus clearly is the falls, if I scroll the image on my screen to do this, it just makes the image so much more powerful.

I have the B&W 10-stop. Works well, although at times I feel I get some minor color casts (mostly toward magenta) that I need to correct in post-processing. Of course, in this case where I took it to B&W, I didn't have to worry about that.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll look at the blacks, although a quick look at the histogram showed a good but at true black and at the left end, so I'll also look at some local contrast adjustments. Appreciate all the thoughts and suggestions.

Really great image Dave...I'd love the opportunity to shoot in these conditions, we're lucky to get ice on the bucket in the backyard in winter here!

Excellent, well-composed image Dave. The one thing I noticed right away is that the top half of the image seems a little dark, particularly the snow on the trees and ground.

Nice composition, I think getting the whites to pop more may add more contrast, and make the blacks more prominent..
