p.1 #1 · Basketball focus

Took some basketball shots last night and thought I'd done pretty good. Showed them to a pro and he suggested my focus points were off and I need to switch to Nikon's equivalent of Canon's AL Servo-Focus. Looks like that is AF-C on a Nikon D90 but I'm not sure. I'm shooting with D90, 85/1.8, AF-C, Auto ISO and WB, matrix metering, wide focus area, f/2, 800, continuous high speed release. Here's a link to the pics I took

http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/mount-juliet-golden-bears-(mt-juliet,tn)/basketball/fan_photos.htm#imageid=a124e0d9-f06a-e211-a211-002655e6c126

Any suggestions appreciated.

You'll get better results posting the images here.

Agreed. That link gets me nowhere. Oh way, you want us to copy and paste the entire thing?

Agree that the link is goofy. However, it is my understanding that I can only post if I pay money. I'm a guy on a budget, hence the lame link.

As an option to copying my lame link, just a simple question. Is Nikon's AF-C equal to Canon's AL-Servo?

You don't have to pay to post images

AF-C will track a subject while the shutter release is pressed halfway.

Try copy - paste to get to the photos.
I have no problem doing an actual link to photos on PBASE (and others).
try using:

httpCOLONSLASHSLASHimagesDOTmaxprepsDOTcomDOTedgesuiteDOTnet/user_uploaded/user_generated_images/3/0/f/30f2874f-a495-40e9-ad94-6e666564ba85/a124e0d9-f06a-e211-a211-002655e6c126DOTjpg

Examples are too small to really determine focus, etc. However, I did note that all of them are in need of "horizontal" adjustment (using the stripes on the walls and verticals of the walls as a references)..

yes AF-C is what you want. And I would try narrow or single point focus to eliminate any possible jumping around.

FWIW the 851.8 is not the fastest focusing lens in the lineup...do you have a 501.4 or 501.8? You say you're on a tight budget, but any 2.8 glass? Like a 24-70 or 70-200?

You're nice and low which is good, and the white balance is good as well. You'll want to crop in a bit tighter to show here, i.e. remove the dead space in front (bottom) and our right. After straightening, of course

Thanks for the advice on the horizon. Still can't copy and paste the pics. How did you copy and paste my pic? I'm baffled. Tried via Google Chrome. There the paste tab was at least lit, but nothing happened. Any other options?

I use the 85/1.8 as I figured I was better off getting closer to the action and having the 1.8 available. I've stayed away from my 50/1.8 due to my distance fear. Tried my 70-200/2.8 but felt the 1.8 gave me better colors. Do I need to revisit and just practice more? Thoughts appreciated.

Found "Copy Image URL" in Chrome. Let's see if this works.

Shazam!!! Thank you very much. Here are couple others. So what do you think? Use other lenes (50/1.8; 70-200/2.8), get better body more practice or move on to basket weaving??

Thanks

Jeff

At 400 px on the longest side these are just too small to really offer any input. I would suggest 600 to 800 px on the longest side for posting here.
