Meh.... So some people occasionally take pictures with their cell phones at a few top NY restaurants resulting in a ban because the flash might disturb others. Has anybody observed this happening? Anyway, me thinks this is a silly filler article written by somebody who doesn't want the credit.

It's not so much banning photography, as it is banning the flash. I'm sure its a very upscale restaurant, and from the sounds of its a lot of people get proposed to there. They probably want to preserve this and keep it in the upscale atmosphere. I don't really blame them. However, I don't see Chili's or Applebee's doing this anytime soon,

I agree with banning flashes at all restauarants. The LEDs on the smartphones are quite blinding in a dark environment, too.

If you are out with your significant other and it is a special occasion, why do restaurants assume that you are taking a picture of their food? If anything, let's ban the phony hand clapping/birthday chorus, the crying baby, or the cell phone ring that always happens in the restaurants the average person can afford.

No, I'm serious. It is very annoying, especially in a decent restaurant. Perhaps my eyes are rather sensitive with increasing age, but it is the rudeness that bothers me most.
