| p.1 #18 · Another WA Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G is coming |
I'm keeping my 17-35AFS for now, but if this new version of the 18-35 produces the IQ that those extra aspherics and ED elements should bring, then I may be switching out my UWA zooms . . . . .
If, on the other hand they pull a 24-85AFS VR redesign again, then I will be sorely disappointed.
Well, the MTF charts are available and while the 18-35 looks pretty good, it's not going to be better than the 16-35 except maybe at the extreme corners (and I think the corners of the 16-35 are still pretty good despite the severe distortion). It may be substantially better than the 17-35 though. These are all just the wide end measurements, so take with whatever salt you wish. It certainly looks like the weight vs. performance payoff might be worth it. Personally having just dropped cash for the 16-35 this won't be an option (plus I also plan on picking up the Rokinon 14mm as a lightweight UWA) but had I not just bought it would indeed be tempting.
