p.1 #1 · the good old days

post a picture from your first dslr and experience the thrill again.

i started this post because I have to laugh when I read people complain about the some of the newer released cameras from canon or nikon.

i remember my first dslr (D30 - $2000) and how excited i was to use it. it was hard to shoot sports but i loved trying and never once complained. i had to pass on the D60 but then when the 10d was announce it was big time. man did I dream of the day i could get my hands on a 10d. and when i bought my first 1d series I had arrived. i loved that 1d.

and to think we complain about the 5d3 or such.

Good times with the rock solid 20D. Was a successor to quite a few digital P&S's going all the way back to a great 1.2 megapixel monster.

The 20D was great; still have mine (plus other newer ones) and will never sell it.

I didn't go digital until 2003, so the 10D is my "goode olde days." Hard to believe it was 10 years ago...

Kind of narcissistic to post 65 snap shots with no other caption than "20D: ". Maybe pick out one or two that are your best.

Only thing worse will be when someone quotes "skibum5" post.

EOS D60 was my first DSLR purchased November 2002 (afIr).
After I put it out of its box I called a friend and she came in and we did some portraits.
It got dark soon and before we finished she put of her clothes.
I was already using ISO 800, and as far I remember shooting with 1/8th and wondering what would came out. As far I remember it was the 28-135 IS. I only did three shoots. Two of them where blury. But I was astonished that this one was not. I never shot analog again after:

Warning: This picture shows a nude body

First shooting D60

Edit:
I forgot to say that the camera including grip and 1GB microdrive was about 2.700 .
At 6MP and max ISO 1000 (enhanced and worthless). But ISO 800 looked irregular like ISO 1600 film greain. Really nice. AF was never working reliable if not in bright sunlight.
The body saved me about 2000 film and development costs a year, so it payed itself within less than two years. As far I remember it worked 4,5 years before shutter broke.

Ralph - That's really beautiful. Nice job.

The weird thing is, is that my first digital camera was a 1Ds - I think around 2002, and I have precious few images from that camera that are still around in any form today. I surely shot a lot of jobs with it, but I was still shooting a lot of film side by side as well.

I did find one image that was definitely shot with that camera that is still around and selling today. Surprisingly, the dinky little 11 mp file has been printed up to 32 x 48 many times and looks really great - probably more filmlike than any other digital camera I've had since.

This one almost escaped me as I was driving home from Montana to L.A. I had been watching this cloud for a couple of hours coming out of Yellowstone and then I came around the corner and there was this scene. I shot about seven or eight frames handheld with the original 24-70 and before I could pull out my RZ, the light was gone, so this was it.

Fun topic. My first dslr was the nikon d50 (in 2007 that was I think). Bought the D50 with the kit lens, and added a sigma 70-300 a month or so after. Used that set all the way to okt 2011 .

Still pretty satisfied with the images from that camera

** Edit: Ah forgot these are the canon forums, above is with nikon D50 but I shoot canon now haha.

Ralph,

You should probably follow the rules with respect to nudes, as some of us do view FM from work:

Be aware of content. Any photographs considered lewd, vulgar, sexually orientated, or pornographic in nature will be immediately deleted. Please only post decent, tasteful, artistic photographs. Are 350D / Rebel XT shots welcome here, or is that too modern?

I did/do not see any of the mentioned restrictions in the picture.
But thank you for the advice. I changed the embedded pic to a link.

My first photograph with a DSLR, 20D, eight years ago. Of course it is f/8, 50 mm. Shot in JPEG, straight out of the camera. The very next day I began shooting Raw mode and never looked back. I joined FM a couple of weeks later.

I don't see anything wrong with your image above, I didn't get "excited" at all .

This is one of the very first pictures I took after unboxing my Rebel XTi back in 2006. I had just attached my shiny new 50mm f/1.8 II and started shooting whatever was around me.

This was taken in 2005, shortly after I got 20D. The lens used was one of those inexpensive 70-300 zooms worth $250 or so at the time.
