p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Very Rare Bird Sighting!

So there was a story in the local news a few days ago about a little bird that had never been seen in Canada before. It was confirmed to be a Red Flanked Bluetail, a species of bird common in Asia, but only sighted in North America once or twice(?) previously. I went to the park where it was supposed to be hanging out, and I saw it within 30 minutes! It's a beautiful bird, but it's all alone.

AMAZING! where the hell is this bird?!?!?!? i know of only a few sightings of this bird in north america, almost all of which are from the aleutians/pribilofs/st lawrence island in alaska. the only two records outside of alaska prior to this bird have come from california, 1 in san clemente island in socal in 2011 and 1 from the farallon islands in norcal 1989.

this is a MEGA rarity as it is a code 4 according to the aba......

so lucky so to see this in north america!!!!

I love # 5

I know many who would recommend some cloning out of branches in the rest of the shots. The cloning would be of the branch going over the bird's back I'd say. But my recommendation would be a Noise Reduction on the shots. It would greatly improve them all.

Congratulations on your rare find

Lil

Thanks for the comments, everyone! Yes, this bird is causing quite a commotion with birders, photographers & ornithologists from all over North America converging on a little park in a Vancouver suburb.

Please enlighten me: what does "code 4 according to the aba" mean? Thanks!

That branch was there when I took the pic, I wouldn't change it. As for the noise, these images are cropped in quite tight, and some are shot at 8000 ISO on a 1DX + 500mm f4L IS.
