Well I'm really back home again and there's nothing like going from 82F and sunny to 28F and miserable...I know you guys in Canada think this is like a spring thaw...but I am not a cold weather person...unless I'm traipsing around looking for owls! But I digress...
I returned to a place where I had such wonderful memories on xmas vacations as a teenager and then watching my children grow up similarly...the property was sold, closed and I thought it might never reopen as a hotel but after 5 years it has. I wondered what I would find and how I would feel. Well, my old "home" is different, but in many, many ways much better....Beach front sight lines are dramatically changed and the foliage and plantings(flowers) made it much more interesting and inviting to the endemic birds.
But I returned this time as a photographer and not a golfer and found so many amazing birds that had been under my nose for 42 years...birds I had never seen before because I never looked. Amazing how that works, huh?!
I will try to get to some of the birds I suspect many have not seen terribly frequently on the forum and will start with two hummers. I am not 100% sure of the ID's as I do not have a Puerto Rico bird book yet. But I believe one is a Green Throated Caribe and the other a Green Mango. If there is someone out there that knows for certain please chime in. The foliage does not really allow for clean backgrounds as is pretty obvious and I shot these handheld with the 500 and some with the 1.4tc in addition mostly at ISO 1600. These were a quick edits on the plane ride home so please indulge me if they are "just ok".
