Do you offer a private viewing gallery for each client to share their images with friends and family? (Not talking here about a blog.)

Yes. The private gallery includes all the images the clients will receive on the disk. This serves the dual purpose of being another backup source for me.

I do it according to a rating system, normally about 25% of the images from the day end up in the gallery.

ie. Zenfolio is dirty cheap - $100 a year and you have unlimited space. This also doubles as easy way for clients and their friends to order prints.

Zenfolio gets all the pics that go on the disk.
So a lot could be 500-1000 or more depending.

I wouldn't see the point of doing a private gallery with a limited selection. If you're limiting the selection, ie trying to show the best, I think that is what a blog post is for. I used to use smugmug which as mentioned above is useful for backing up too. But I left them for numerous reasons.

Anyway, I use a private gallery to display all the images. I've had very few people buy a disk from the starting point, so a a gallery is pretty useful for viewing the images.

+1. I can't imagine any good reason for not showing them everything that will be on their disc. The "best of" gallery is what a blog post is for.
