Just wanted to share a fun photoshoot I recently did of the Hoover Dam Bridge Inspection. It was a pretty unique shoot, including getting into the bucket of an inspection crane and going over the side and under the bridge. Over the course of two days I shot everything with the 5DII, and used the gamut of focal lengths from 12mm to 800mm.

The Sigma 12-24 II can be really useful in tight situations. And inside the bucket of the inspection crane, space was really tight:

The Sigma 24-70 is my typical my workhorse when shooting active site work and this project was no exception:

I used the Canon 70-200 f/4 (both with and without the 2x III Extender) a lot on this shoot too:

I rented a Sigma 800mm for this shoot because initially I was told the only other vantage point I could get off the bridge would be from far down the river below. That ended up not being the case, but I still found a few occasions to use this beast of a lens:

And finally, I managed to get into position to use my 24TS-E II on a few shots. This one here at pretty close to full shift:

Very nice shots. Different perspective. Last time that I was at Hoover Dam, the bridge did not exist.

If it was me, there would be a lot of motion blur due to knees shaking shooting from that height.

Very nice. It's amusing to me that despite being a rock climber, imagining the heights at play in these pictures is causing me to quake a bit.

Cool. Can we assume you had your gear lashed to your body, or otherwise attached? Not just to prevent loss, but a 5DII falling from that height is going to leave more than a mark.

I saw the bridge last year after thanksgiving, it's quite the presence. My whole family was scared to go walk across it. Shot this from the other side.

Well it would've made a decent splash in the river, that's for sure. But yeah the 5DII was strapped around my body. While in the crane I had a lens in one coat pocket, the 2x extender in the other side pocket, and then another lens in a pouch strapped to my belt. Changing lenses was done carefully, crouching down in the crane's bucket so they couldn't fall out. Well, for that matter, every action was done carefully

Heh. I heard something similar from one of the inspectors. There's just something a little unsettling about having that much empty space below your feet
