p.1 #1 · All Members please read

Folks, I know up until around August/September I had not been a around moderating. Well, let me change that. I had not been active on the boards. I popped in now and again to do some house cleaning, but now that I am here a lot more, my continuing goal is not only to make the Sports Corner Presentation Board a great resource for Sports Photographers, but also make the Fred Miranda message boards the best resource for all photographers. But there are a few things to remember:

First, the Sports Corner is not the only message board here at FM. First, please read the javascript:WinOpen('/forum/scrules.htm','600','750')Sports Corner Rules, and the FM FAQs

This is all you need to know really to be a productive member of these boards.

Second, stressing rule #1 in the Sports Corner Rules, Please post camera specific questions in the appropriate gear discussion board. If you are going to ask how to best capture a photo of a bird in flight, you would go to the Nature & Wildlife board, if you want wedding help you would go to the Wedding Photographer board, so it makes sense to go to the Canon-mount SLRs or Nikon-mount SLRs boards to ask questions about those specific boards. Those boards are full of people who know those cameras very well (Other cameras, Minolta/Sony, Pentax, Oly, etc fall into the Alternative Gear & Lenses board). We ask this because it keeps this Presentation Board clear of non appropriate gear talk. In the past, when gear talk was allowed here, it got out of hand. For every 1 actual sports photo post there were 5+ gear posts. The board was cluttered and disorganized. The only gear allowed is non-camera specific sports gear like Strobes, Radio Transmitters, Remotes, etc. Something that would be beneficial information for Nikon, Canon, Pentax or Hassy shooters. The Lighting forum would be the appropriate forum for Strobes, but many portrait photogs would not be able to help sports shooters with strobe set ups for high school basketball.

Finally, If you do not agree with these rules, I am always open to discussing them with you. That does not mean they will be changed, but I will listen to your arguments, and explain in further detail why these rules were adopted by Fred for the Sports Corner. But I ask that you do this in Private. Complaining in public about this is unprofessional. Recently there was a post that pointed out that people are watching these forums, and I can guarantee that is a fact. I know that Strobe manufacturers, Camera Manufacturers, Third Party Lens Manufacturers, Photo Agencies, Wire Services, and Sports Leagues to pop in here from time to time and it was shown recently when someone got picked up by the NHLPA. You start griping in public about forum rules, it looks bad on your side and you might just miss out on a opportunity.
