p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Just 4 HS bball w/ LT reflectors

I bought some Paul C. Buff long throw reflectors for use with the Norman 400's that I use.
Too soon to Make any conclusions, but a couple observations. My aiming of the lights is much more important now. There seems to be better light fall-off behind the near-court subjects. I didn't find any real exposure difference in the 'zone' of light on the court. I guess I was expecting that, even bouncing, there would be a significant increase in light on the floor... at least a 1/2 stop.
Will try them again tomorrow night.

The white team is ranked #2 in the state and handled us pretty easily 97-71. The have one of the top point guards in the state (#21), who seemed like he scored 30 and shot about 80%.
they must have been gunning for 100 since they had 3 of 5 starters on the floor at the end.

Thanks for looking.

1 - 4

First one must have slipped to 1/160. Others at 1/200 (the faster sync speed with these Normans).

Wow Bob, these look great... The only thing #3 I'm having a tough time with the look of the kid. Maybe crop it tighter to the waist, of course the crop ratio would be off. He appears he doesn't have a leg...

Thanks for sharing these with your light set up, nice work...

Thanks Frank and Shane. I did consider doing a square crop on 3, but decided to leave it.

Thanks Amlsml...
Haven't been real happy with the AF of my rig lately. Before the game, I did a -6 MF adjustment on my 70-200 and it seemed to make a difference.

The images are very nice and I really like the falloff.

Now, I find this...

...very interesting as I experienced the same with a different piece of equipment.

I bought one of the Harbor Digital Design Flash Extender's (HDD FE) and tried it this week at a swim meet. The FE is an alternative to the Better Beamer - a fresnel lens - although, IMHO, built a little better.

With the FE mounted on an SB-800 and bounced, the additional light was minimal notwithstanding that the HDD website claims +2 stops of light at 100 ft. I don't know what's going on. Maybe the additional stops claimed by HDD and the LTs is only for direct light. Maybe bouncing off a ceiling spreads it out enough that you lose what you and I thought we might gain.

I dunno; this is one for the "light engineers."

Regardless, thanks for sharing your experience with the LTs. I've been considering buying one and even if I don't get the additional light, I DO like the falloff.

These look really good. Agree what overs stated about #3 but over then that lighting is spot on.

Thanks... I can assure you, he has a left leg.

Here's the square crop.
