p.1 #5 · Heads Up - Aurora forecast for tonight is strong. Thursday 17 Jan | |
Mr Grimm:
Short answer is that 3/10 usually results in northern lights pictures in Calgary from my experience but usually only 1/2 hour in the night for 50% of the nights. But 4/10 is better so if you skies are clear and you are out of town and you sit and wait for 3 hours in the dark, I would say you have a 50/50 chance tonight.

You decide if its worth it.
Google aurora watch at UofAlbert for a more specific forecast to Edmonton. But my experience is that aurora watch from UoAlberta is good for short term (1 hour forecasts) and U of Alaska is good for longer term forecasting (day or 2 ahead).
But don't throw rocks at my house, if you sit in the dark freezing an see nothing.
Both UofAlaska and UofAlberta have a auto-email alert to you, if you sign up.
