After 4 broken cardreaders and a broken extreme 3 the card readers seems to damage my CF cards. Besides the in camera canon slot witch brand is a good brand to use?

I've had no issues whatever with my Lexar Professional USB 3.0 card reader:

Got mine on Amazon and recently updated the firmware.

Man, you're tough on cards! I been using a Lexar Dual Slot USB 3.0 reader for almost two years, with no problems (excellent reader). Before that, I had a multi-card reader that I used for about six years, no problems. It was Lexar or some other recognizable first-tier brand, but nothing too special.

Maybe you should drink less coffee, or something...

I doubt it's the card readers. After 4 readers, it's most likely operator error. I suggest leaving the card in the camera and uploading photos using the camera's USB connection. Just reformat the card after each upload.

A card reader is way faster.

I have a reader for CF cards that cost $1.99 or so. It still works after several years.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong. It seems that any card above 1 mb in a card reader doesn't mount on any of my MAC's so I end up using the usb to MAC upload

The first reader held several Years and went down because of the elektronic in the reader The second card reader held a few weeks. I can imagine that second card reader damaged one cf card (8gb extreme 3) witch i noticed too late. I shoot 70000 shots a year with at least 200 card readschanges cam/reader a year so operator error I think is not so likely. The slide system in my 1dm3 is way way better than the card readers i had were. The in cam usb is way way slower. As is semi pro with 20 - 30 Weddings a year the time I save with a card reader is welcome.

Thanks for the posts above!!

Sounds like the OP needs the PixelFlash USB 3.0 No-Bend Pins Compact Flash Memory Card Reader:

http://www.amazon.com/PixelFlash-No-Bend-Compact-SuperSpeed-Adapter/dp/B005IMFX2K/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358371989&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=CF+card+reader%2C+no+broke+pins

Tight guides and deep placement make it really difficult to mess up your pins...

Xander will be OK with the Lexar Pro USB 3.0, as long as he doesn't drink coffee in the Coffeeshoppe.

All readers for cards have "rails" that make sure the card is positioned squarely to the pins. If you hurry the insertion, you run the risk of a sideways insertion as opposed to a straight on insertion. If you have to force the card, you have positioned it sideways and messed up a pin or two.

Take your time. I would suggest putting the card on the rails, slide it back & forth a couple of times, then inserting it squarely.

Operator error is the most likely cause of your problem. Sorry to say.
