I'm looking for an ultra wide angle lens. I have a canon 7D and the other widest angle lens I have is the Canon 18-55 kit lens. It is wide, but I would like to go wider for landscapes. I wouldn't like a lens that is for full frame as I would like to go as wide as I can without it being a fisheye. I'm looking at zooms. But specifcally what suggestions do you have based on experience?

Canon 10-22 is a good lens
I used the 10-22 on a 7D with good results. 16mm field of view at 10mm is wiiiiiide
colors and contrast were good

DPP will auto-correct the lens distortion. Or CS6, Lightroom, PTlens, etc.

Sigma 8-16 is the widest, fantastic quality (equal of the 70-200f2.8L IS mkII), but it has a bulbous front element that causes filter issues.

Canon 10-22 and tokinas 11-16f2.8 are the best standard lenses with flat fronts.

I don't really care much about how they are shaped, I am just looking for one that is sharp, wide and has little CA with it. Basically what is the best EF-S equivlant lens that offers the best IQ.

'Best IQ' is a rather nebulous thing.. but IMO the 8-16 has the highest sharpness, canon is best overall, tokina is fastest and sharp.

Agreed - Canon 10-22 is an excellent lens. Holds its value well if you move to FF or decide you don't like it.

Canon 10-22 definitely gets a lot of praise and deservedly so. I shoot with a Tokina 12-24 f4. It is a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the 10-22, and not as wide. But it is constant aperture and built like a tank. IQ is excellent.

Another vote for the canon 10-22... a great lens you can also do IR photography with it if you want too!

I loved the 10-22. It is basically "L" image quality without the full weather sealing and "L" build quality. It mimics the 16-35L lens for full frame.

Juat a last comment. Money doesn't matter. What would give me the best sharpness, least CA and flare and still compliment my widest lens as of now, A Canon 18-55. Build quality doesn't matter.

Either get the Canon 10-22 (which I did) or get one of the Tokinas for crop-factors (I got the full-frame version).

The Canon 10-22 is very good value for the money.

I had that problem when I got my first dslr, a 300d in 2004. The crop sensor multiplication made wide angle difficult. I bought a Sigma 15mm f2.8 fisheye. It equates to 24mm on a ff camera. I have taken hundreds of good pics with it on the 300d and on the 450d and 550d as I upgraded. I still use it as a full fisheye on my 5d2. People moan a lot about Sigma stuff but I have had a good experience with this one.

I have a Sigma 12-24 that has great IQ. I know build "doesn't matter", but this thing is a tank. It's made me a lot of money over the ten years I've had it.
