Just more proof that it's not the gear that counts....

Oh I see, Nikon D4, I was thinking Canon 1D4, thats why I suggested to bump the iso to 3200. But still, 400 is plenty for a portrait with no shake.

Huh?

Ha ha ha ha. Might work I suppose.

Perhaps the D3s would have done a better job...

I think the OP is just goofing on us. I've looked at his site.

I did not have a tripod. I was at a party as a guest and was slightly drunk. I just grabbed to D4 out of the car and I just wanted to see how good an image I could get in a janitors closet with the door propped open. Obviously I should have shot this with my 85g 1.4 at f 2 iso 800 or better, but given that I was just having some fun, I think it was ok. It looks better at 3 feet.

The lens doesn't change the fact that you could've gained a faster shutter speed by bumping up your ISO to 2000 or higher.

I would not assume that Eric is just yanking our chain here (although I can see this idea not being too far fetched) ... and a few of the comments are bit on the harsh side in my opinion. Keep in mind that that tone can be a little bit discouraging for the next newbie wanting to post and learn here. Frank

Just about everyone missed the fact that the woman is gorgeous.

Lol, not everyone. I almost felt like this was a TS, tilt shift shot? I didn't see which lens you used above, but haven't gone back through the thread.

Frank, we're not normally harsh. I think we just don't know what to make of this. He's not a newbie as you might be suggesting, as he's shooting with a D4 and has a website promoting his wedding photography. I think there is just a lack of understanding of whether he wanted c&c or praise or what. We really are trying to help but he really hasn't been on here, responding to us.

Agree that the OP is no newbie. D4, D3s and D700 in the bag and a tonne of high end lenses, and a website promoting his services for portraits and weddings.

I'm with Ron. Not sure I quite get the shot or thread or what the OP was looking for. The same image has been posted in the wedding forum too but with equally bemused responses.

I don't think anyone's trying to be harsh. Just trying to understand the rationale behind shooting a portrait at 1/15th instead of riding the D4's high iso capability and getting the shutter up to something useable.

P.S she is indeed beautiful. Just a real shame we don't have a pucker portrait of her so we can fully appreciate her looks.

Say no more. If I was single and a little drunk at a party, I would be looking for any excuse to get her into the janitor's closet too! Hope it worked out for you.

Here is another one. Not so blurry and not at 2.8. I had to crop a lot to remove the stuff from the closet.

Eric, I'm not sure why you don't talk about your shutter speed and use of ISO. If you have a D4, surely you know it's ability to shoot in low light conditions by cranking up the ISO?
