Dumb question

Since metabones never answered my customer services question, I will ask it here

Maybe they thought it was too dumb a question

I have a NEX7 and canon 50L and siggy 35 art lens, will the AF work using these lens?

Just wanted to make sure before I hit the buy button, not sure now anyways

Thanks! Phil

The AF is sluggish, definitely not for moving objects

Anyways, can you guys tell the difference? using a nex 5n 50 MP @ f/1.4 with speed booster and 1ds3 @ f/2

The second image has more "pop", though the exposure seems a bit higher too.

So I'm happy with my Leica-R speedbooster, but now re-thinking if I should have bought that specific model. I have two Nikon-mount lenses (ZF100 and CV180), and have been eyeballing some C/Y stuff.

So do I get a Nikon-mount Speedbooster too, and forget about C/Y?
Or get a Canon-mount and then adapters for all three types of lens? Then sell the R-mount SB.

According to this it seems like both crons work fine on the X-Pro1 with the speed booster.

Have you received your SB? There might not be a problem, but certainly there is nothing indicated in the link above. I'd be careful when use it, as somebody has already damaged their SB from Getdpi SB thread.

I took a look of both my 35cron and 50cron, yes, I am worried.

2nd is canon, so yea, its pretty hard to distinguish the two. Canon was a stop overexposed.

pretty good job by speed booster. When I get more time, I'll do a more proper comparison.

Lol, sometimes it is.

Thing is, SB is supposed to have "almost same" DOF as regular lens on FF (about x1.07) so Im bit suprised. Or maybe f2 vs f1.4 does have that much difference. Dunno.

Good news: the summicron-R 32/2 is awesome on the SpeedBooster.
Bad news: You need to shave the protruding piece of metal down to reach infinity.
I pretty much did exactly this and it worked great.
Just procede with cautious as mistakes do happen.
On the bright side, you could cut yourself with how sharp the lens is, even at f2.
I am very satisfied with the performance.

How far do they stick out? If anything, my Nikon AiS 35mm f1.4 has a thing sticking out at the back too and it fit fine.

The thing about what's sticking out of a lot of the Leica-R lenses is that the piece of metal is attached to the rear element and as focusing to infinity the piece of metal makes contact with the glass element on the Speedbooster.
I don't think this should be a reason not to use the Leica-R lenses, as long as people are aware that some adjustment is needed for several lenses.
If I hadn't known of the problem, I probably would have been very disappointed since I couldn't focus further than about ten feet initially.
If you're careful, it's a 15 minute fix and then you won't have to think about it again.
Here's a shot with the Leica-R 35/2:

Brody, thanks for the update. Looks like my post about these R right in time I am surprised the guy from your link mention zero word about compability of his set of 35/50/90 cron.
Do you remember how many mm you need trim down?

Don't you guys think MB at least should mention this in their website.
It can easily get damaged without experience of this kind of stuff.

I'm not sure when, but they added this comment on the EF-Nex adapter details

List of manual focus lenses which REQUIRE MODIFICATION to be used on Speed Booster™
Many manual focus lenses have rear protrusions (spikes, levers, other appendages) which would damage the optics and/or housing of Speed Booster™. They need to be modified before they can be safely used on Speed Booster™. Check and make sure there are no rear protrusions from the adapter/lens combination before using on Speed Booster. Scratches and damages caused by rear protrusions or by poor quality adapters are not covered by warranty. The following is an incomplete list of lenses known to be incompatible.

Leica R
Super-Elmar-R 15mm
Elmarit R 28/2.8
Elmarit R 35/2.8
Summicron R 50/2

Nikon F
20/2.8 AI-S

Olympus OM
OM 18/3.5
OM 21/2
OM 21/3.5
OM 28/2.8
OM 50/1.8

Pentax K
Every Pentax K-mount lens has a protruding fin and an aperture lever. It does NOT fit.

Very impressive stuff, LG! One small question. When you say @f:1.4, does that mean wide open, which, with the SpeedBooster means f:1.2, or a real f:1.4, meaning stopped down 1 stop?
