p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Anyone using CS6 with Nik Plugins?

I am having issue of CS6 freezing or crashing. Adobe keeps telling me it is the Nik Plugins ( Veviza2, Define , Prosharper)
Nik tells me it is Adobe

I am at a loss. Is anyone using and not having problems.

I use MacBook Pro OS 10.8.2

At this point I will go back to CS 5 !

Thanks
Birdie

FWIW, I had a problem with PS CS6 crashing when I opened Nik Plugins. After lengthy phone calls, we found that the fonts were causing it. Some other program had substituted a slightly different Arial font family. Put the originals back in and no problems since. (also on a Mac)

Wacky. I'm using Silver Efex 2 and Color Efex 4 with CS6 but I'm on OS X 10.7.5.

No issues with NIK and CS6.

Sorry I couldn't be helpful.

With Color Efex 4, after I apply some filter, my video driver will lock up when some video driver action occurs and the driver resets itself. I get a warning to such effect. At this point I have to manually close PS via task manager. If I tell Nik to NOT use the GPU, then everything is fine. I reported this to Nik, but got brushed off. There is no way to know if Nik or the video driver are at fault. Could be Nik leaving the driver unstable, could be the driver is just plain unstable.

This is Windows 7, 64-bit, AMD video card.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have spent more time than I care to with Adode and Nik.
Must say the guys at Nik have really tried to help.

Below is a portion of the latest email from Nik . Seems to me they know about the issues with the GPU:

The software is quite stable as it has been out for a long time and had many updates to address different issues. It does not use any type of GPU options which other more recently released products support and we have seen more problems with these products compared to Viveza 2, Dfine 2, and Sharpener Pro 3.

Again, thank you everyone!

Hi Birdie,

I'm on MAC (been there for a few years now) but when I was on PC I had a similar issue as you and it turned out to be Viveza.2 spoiling the show.

These instructions are for PC but may cross over.
IE:: remove the Viveza plist file and uninstall NIK plug ins. Check Activity monitor to see if Nik apps are running and stop them etc.

"
1. Close all applications
2. Uninstall the Viveza 2 and HDR Efex Pro plugin using the Windows control panel (perform uninstall while all other apps are closed and the computer is connected to the internet)
3. Got to Windows control panel - Administration - Services
4. Search for the service for the Nalpeiron Licensing Service
5. Go to the properties of this service and stop the service
6. Start the Windows Explorer (filemanager)
7. On a 32-bit Windows go to the folder C:/ Windows/System32
On a 64-bit Windows go to the folder C:/ Windows/SysWOW64
Locate the file nlssrv32.exe and delete this file
8. Reboot you system
9. Install the actual plugin (download from your account on the NIK site). while all other applications are closed again and activate from your host application (Photoshop / Lightroom)."

Hope this helps,

Cheers Gaz

Exactly the same here on both MBP and iMac - no problems.

Birdies, as a matter of interest have you upgraded the OS since you installed the software ?

I recently upgraded to mountain lion and eventually found that it upset one of my programs even though it had appeared to be ok on the face of it. A complete uninstall and re-install of the program and all was good, but it was neither Adobe nor Nik software.
