p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Voigtländer 15/4.5 aperture question

Sorry for the new topic, did a new search & couldn't find anything.

Quick question for those of you who use the M-mount CV15 – do yours show the aperture blades when wide open? I.e. it looks like it's stopped down.

Just received mine & just want to make sure that it's not faulty. Can't remember I've seen this in any other lens I've had.

Thanks!

I don't have mine with me, but IIRC you can see the iris at the edge.

My Mamiya macro Sekor 60/2.8 does that, too.

Ok. Thanks. I can see the iris at the edge of some other lenses as well, but this seems more pronounced.

Here's a photo of how it looks

No, looks not right to me. Though I don't have this particular lens.
But can't you try to click through the aperture to see it has WO and minimal Aperture and also check exposure by each click?(though there will not be exact 1EV difference due to design and vignette, but at least you can see if it is obviously wrong?)

My Voigt 15/4.5 is the same. I believe it's normal.

My R.Topcor 135/3.5 preset shows a whole lot of iris when wide open.

It is normal, and visible on the 12/5.6 as well.

Why not? There are plenty of lenses that does not open the aperture fully at the largest f-stop. The 15/4.5 does not and it's well known. Probably because it would have rendered an unsharp image and/or terrible vignetting.

Edit: And yes, I have owned one of these.

Thanks a lot everyone. Glad to hear it's as it should. Hadn't seen this type of design before, so was surprised by it. Granted, I've probably not owned as many lenses as most of you, at least not as Makten.

Now I just need to learn to shoot wide...

It's easy, start by going somewhere that has a good vantage point or interesting subject, and emulate what's in the pano thread, you can't go wrong.
Sunrise's and sunset's are a safe bet too.
If you've never shot wide before, take just the one lens and don't stop at just one picture of a subject, get to know it, and cruising around in live view makes finding great compositions a breeze, and fun.
