There was a very interesting thread about this about a year or two ago. Try searching on current year, and then back off to 2011.

Coincidentally, I happened to see this in my Flipboard feed this morning. Pretty cool.

I had a quick look, and couldn't find anything. Somebody will probably remember it.

I did this a few years ago, I think if I were to do it again I would use a quad.
The lifting capacity is much better and they are more stable when used to lift gear, better flight times and all.

All depends on how much you are willing to spend.

I have not done it, but am interested. I saw an article the other day that mentioned a website called diydrones.com . They are pretty big into doing aerial photography and it looks like a very good reference source.

Joe the more info the better please provide what insite you can

I just bought a quad copter along with a hero 3 black camera just to get used to this type of filming. I want to shoot both stills and movies

My plan is to upgrade to an Octocopter after i get used to this type of operation and start shooting with much better camera gear underneath

I think this will bring a whole new prospective to my photos I just need to get octocopter proficient so i do not ruin my good camera

I just invested $1300 in a hero and a copter to learn on. The next step i think will cost me about $4000 to move up to. From there $10,000 to get where i am ultimately looking to go

I just ordered the Phantom from DJI, and a Go Pro from B&H to mount on it. This is a cheap way to start and see if you like it, especially with the flight software that comes with the Phantom. For commercial stuff, look at the Spreading Wings they offer. Heres a link to the site: http://www.dji-innovations.com/

The flight software comes installed in the Phantom. No need for anything else.

Be sure you do the compass initiation properly, or it will not hold using GPS.

Joe

Had a number of issues keeping it locked on GPS and then firing off at all

I ended up sending it back to DJI and am to get a replacement this coming week
