p.1 #1 · Older Tamron SP Adaptal Lenses

Has anyone used the old Tamron SP Adaptal lenses on Canon EOS bodies...and successfully gotten infinity focus?

I've several pristine primes and zooms, all with the FD mount, but would buy an adapter and a Nikon or whatever adaptal mount is needed to use them.

Any advice/experience on how to use this old glass would be greatly appreciated.
Jerry

Adaptall F mount on lens with F-EOS adapter works fine. Other mfr combinations likely to work also. I've got the venerable SP 90/2.5. The SP 17/3.5 is a very popular one as well ... as are other combinations. It is very doable.

I haven't tried infinity with mine yet, Tamron 70-150/2.8 Soft Focus.

No worries. I've used many older SP Adaptall-2 lenses on my EOS cameras, with infinity focus. I have a couple of A2 to EOS adapters; they work well but they're relatively expensive. In many cases, it's more cost effective to get an A2 to M42 and M42 to EOS adapter set. Not quite as solid as the A2 to EOS, but generally less expensive and quite satisfactory.

Here`s the manual focus SP lenses that I found were pretty excellent. The last one (35-80mm) is a real sleeper. You can often find one for about $75 on eBay and it`s darn nearly as good as the Contax Zeiss 35-70/3.4 (which is a significant feat).

SP 17/3.5 [151B]
SP 180/2.5 LD IF
SP 300/5.6 Tele Macro [54B]
SP 35-80/2.8-3.8

Here's a good online resource site for Tamron manual focus lenses, http://www.adaptall-2.org/

There are EOS (EF) mounts in Adaptall II format already. Have been for several years now.

$17.00 and lower on the bay...

Jerry, or did you mean Adaptall v1 ?

BTW, if you're looking for image sample by chance there are couple of threads here:

It must be Adaptall-2, if it's an SP lens.

probably means the original Tamron EOS Adaptall II mounts which were extremely rare and didn't have the AF confirm contacts.

Hi Jerry,

I have been using the 17, 28-80, 35-80, 90 Macro, and 500mm reflex on all the EOS bodies, with no problems at infinity, with a standard Tamron to EOS adapter (Rainbow Imaging).

Regards,

Edd

I've used two lenses a few years ago: 28/2.5 [02B] and SP 300/5.6 [54B]. I had an A2-OM mount + OM-EOS adapter and it worked just fine. The 02B was a nice, moderately sharp and compact lens but with very cold colour reproduction (giving a very "1980's postcards" look to the images), while the 54B was a good tele lens with a very usefull MFD, allowing some interesting close-ups.
